DP 7 has to be the most underrated of all the DP, but it is not a top fiver
Those would go to, in chronological order:

DP8, DP36, DP 3, DP 10, and DP 18. All of these are top quality '70s era shows that span from top-form Pigpen to one of the final shows Donna and Keith played. Close seconds would be DP 1 (better than the ridiculously overpriced Winterland boxset of the same vintage year), DP 12, DP 15, and DP 29.

Obviously, if you're not a '70, '71'-'74, and '77 guy like me, you might take more interest in DP 9 or 21. Of course this will come out snobbish, but I don't really listen to much Brent-era Dead and certainly not the '90s. However, if you're a fan of the raunchy, experimental Dead (which I am as well) who sounded like they were musically copulating on stage in the '60s, you can't get better than Two From The Vault, The Feb-March '69 Fillmore Boxset, and of course, the immortal Live/Dead. There are a few quality DP in the mix, but they don't compare to the last three entries. If you have to get a DP from the '60s, go with DP 26 or DP 16, not 22 even though it has a bang-up, no-holds barred Viola Lee on it.

I'm a big fan of 29, it sall good but Id like to highlight the sugaree, samson and delilah, prophets always good, BERTHA and MINGLEWOOD BLUES are mindbending, then on disc five is a classic, sweetspot scarlet->fire, another great samson and delilah followed by my favorite brown=eyed woman.

also dicks picks 36 has a great not fade away->goin down the road feelin bad ->not fade away, a great dark star (one of my favs), not to forget the awesome truckin, big river and loser.

lol anyways, i haven't heard it all but thats soem of my favorite stuff as of now

I like DP2 - the 10/31/71 show.

Also, 5/2/70 and 9/3/77 are among the best too.

DP's four is the peak of the dead. I also like DP's eight. The Cryptical Envelopment on eight is the best ever.
